Birding Report: August 4, 2017

Eastern Towhee, Scarlet Tanager, Yellow Warbler and More

Welcome to the 5th season of weekly bird reports for the Brainerd Lakes Area. The cool weather yesterday brought in a lot of birds to my feeders with Orioles eating jelly and Bluebirds picking up mealworms from a tray on the deck.

Bird sightings for the area include: Bald Eagle, Osprey, Coopers Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, Turkey Vulture, Trumpeter Swan, Mallard, Woodduck, Ring-neck Duck, Blue-winged Teal, Hooded Merganser, Killdeer, Great-blue Heron, Tree Swallow, Cliff Swallow, Purple Martin, Eastern Bluebird, American Redstart, Golden-winged Warbler, Black and White Warbler, Chestnut Sided Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Gray Catbird, Indigo Bunting, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Oriole, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Pileated Woodpecker, House Wren, Northern Flicker, Red-winged Blackbird, Red eyed Vireo, Ovenbird, Eastern Kingbird, Vesper Sparrow, Red eyed Vireo, Wood Pewee, Rose breasted Grosbeak, Common Loon (North Long Lake, White Sand Lake, Baxter Lake), Common Nighthawk, Common Grackle, Whip-poor Will, Morning Dove, Northern Flicker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Cedar Waxwing, Scarlet Tanager, Nashville Warbler, Cardinal,  Clay-colored Sparrow, Common Raven, Brown Thrasher, Eastern Towhee, and Song Sparrow.

A few locations to check for birds in the lakes area include the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd, St. Mathias Road on old business Hwy 371 south of Brainerd and Kiwanis Park along the Mississippi River also in Brainerd.
