Photo Club and Writers Groups Join Forces at Crossing Arts
Photographers from the Focalpoint photo club of Brainerd and members of the Brainerd Writers Alliance and the Heartland Poets have joined forces to present a project entitled PHOTOWRITE, to be exhibited at the Crossing Arts Alliance (711 Laurel Street) beginning on Oct. 9, through November 3.
Several images from members of Focalpoint were offered to writers from the two writing groups, asking them to write an original poem or a short prose piece inspired by those images. Within six weeks, all the writing was completed and sent to the photo club, who then mounted each photo and text on foamboard. The photos, ranging in size from 8 by 10 to 16 by 20, include such themes as patriotism, wildlife, water, memorials, still life, and architecture. The writers responded in kind with poems and prose stories that followed those ideas. Poems were limited to 40 lines, and any prose could be no more than a single page of text. A People's Choice Award will be given at the conclusion of the exhibit.
A reception will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 3 pm to 5 pm at The Crossing Arts Alliance A program will be presented at 3 pm in which the writers will read their works as the photos are projected.
A book containing the entire project is being developed that will be available to the public. Profits from the book will be shared by all participating organizations.
