Brainerd, MN - Central Lakes College Art Gallery presents Discoveries In Ceramics, An Independent Study Student Exhibition. This exhibition showcases the ceramic work of four independent study students, Daniel Truong, Ivy Dembouski, Lynne Borowicz, and Teagan Maloney, all created over the current spring semester. Students showing great interest and focus in the arts program at Central Lakes College, are given the opportunity to apply for an advanced level of study once they have completed the general arts courses that are offered at the college. Beginning with research and a creative outlook, these artists work hard to develop their own plan for the course, in pursuit of creating a cohesive body of work in the end. They follow the guidance of their instructor, but the majority of the course is based on their ideas and goals, allowing for them to explore the medium of clay on their own, on a much deeper level. Throughout the process, many new skills and techniques are learned in the studio, as well as gaining a greater knowledge of glaze chemistry and how ceramics has evolved throughout history. Through the enjoyment of the process and dedication of the craft these particular students have come together with their individual bodies of work to produce an interesting and insightful exhibition that includes a selection of both pottery and sculptural work.
An artists reception will be held on Thursday, April 13, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Participating artists will be available to meet and discuss their work and creative process. This exhibition and all events associated with it are free and open to the public.
