Halloween is favorite time of year for many and whether you like the tricks or treat OR the thrills and chills of the holiday, the Brainerd and Baxter area has a great selection of Halloween-themed events to choose from. 

Perennial Favorites

Hidden Hollows: Haunted Mansion, Haunted Corn Maze, and The Carnival—Oct. 12, 13, 19, 20, 27 and 28

Join us for Central MN’s largest haunted attraction including a Haunted Mansion, Haunted Corn Maze, The Carnival, a bonfire and concessions. Located on the property of Paul Bunyan Land, 17553 State Highway 18.  Prices: Corn Maze $14, Mansion $10 and Combo Ticket $22.

Hanuted Trails at Northland Arboretum—Oct. 19, 7-9pm

The Haunted Trail is an outdoor event with high and low scare sections of the trails at the Northland Arboretum; black lights, animations and special effects. The low scare trails are appropriate for kids. 10 per person.

Howlerween Creepy Crawlers and Lunch—Saturday, Oct. 27, 11am-1pm
Join us for this live presentation by the Pine Grove Zoo. No registration required. Bring your questions! Come SEE and TOUCH a Kenyan Sand Boa Snake, Golden Knee Tarantula, Panther Chameleon, Russian Tortoise and a Cane Toad. $10.00/family - Arb. members and $20.00/family - Non-members.

Landsburg Landscape Nursery Pumpkin Palooza—Saturday, Oct. 27, 10am-1pm

Costume contest, games, crafts, tasty treats and more! $5 per child ages 3-12. Located at 16460 State Highway 371, Brainerd.

Downtown Spooktacular Event—Saturday, Oct. 27, 12-3pm

Located Downtown Brainerd (Laurel Street) there will be trick-or-treating, games, pumpkin carving, crafts and photo booth.

The Haunted Hallows of Crosslake—Oct. 19, 20, 21, 26 and 27, 7-10pm

The Haunted Hallows of Crosslake When Things Went Horribly Horribly Wrong. The Greater Lakes Performing Arts Group of Pequot Lakes will be presenting a repeating, scary, scripted, family oriented show with thrills and fun for all ages. Crosslake Historial Log Village, 35404 County Road 3 Crosslake, MN 56442.

Nisswa Fire Department Haunted Barn & Hay Rides—Saturday, Oct. 27 2018, 5:30-9pm

Located at 8089 Gardenview Rd, Nisswa, MN 56468. Visit a haunted barn and enjoy hay rides, bonfire, games and concessions. Free will donation with proceeds to benefit the Nisswa Fire Department, Branden's Cancer Crusaders, Brainerd Lakes Area Baseball Association,  and Eagles 4-H Club of Pequot Lakes. 5:30-6:30 p.m.—Not So Scary (No Live Spooks) and 7:00-9:00 p.m.—Scary.

Children's Halloween Party, Nisswa Legion—Sunday, Oct. 28, 1-3pm

Bring your little Trick or Treater to the Nisswa Legion's Annual Children's Halloween Party! Prizes, Treats and Games make this a fun, safe and memorable experience. Located at 25807 Main St, Nisswa, Minnesota 56468.

Trunk Or Treat at Lutheran Church or the Cross—Sunday, Oct. 23, 3-4:30pm

Located at 5064 County Rd 13 - PO Box 29, Nisswa, Minnesota 56468. Join us for our second annual Trunk or Treat event! Just bring your vehicle to the SW parking lot at LCC. Decorating and set up starts at 3pm, Trunk or Treating starts at 3:30pm and goes until 5pm. We will have a Bounce House, Sno-Cones, Cotton Candy, Popcorn, & Hot Chocolate. Plus tons of fun! Please supply your own candy for your trunk. Prizes will be awarded.

Cub’s No Tricks All Treats—Monday, Oct. 29, 4-6pm

Annual Halloween party with games, fun and lots of treats. Wear your costumes! Located at 417 8th Ave NE, Brainerd, and 14133 Edgewood Dr N, Baxter.


Adult Events

Big Axe Pumpkin Carving Contest—Saturday, Oct. 2, 2-4pm

Join us for a fun afternoon of pumpkin carving at the Big Axe. $10 entry fee gets you: 1 Drink, 1 Bowl of soup or chili and 1 Pumpkin. Located at Big Axe Brewing Company, 25435 Main St, Nisswa, Minnesota 56468.

Halloween Party at Roundhouse—Saturday, Oct. 27, 6-9pm

Come out to Roundhouse for a full-blown rockin' Halloween costume party!!! Enjoy the best beer around, listen to some rock & roll, check out the wild costumes, maybe win a prize for your awesome costume, and have a great time! Located at Roundhouse Brewery, 1551 Northern Pacific Rd, Brainerd. Señor Patrón will be vending stating at 5:30 p.m., music 6:30-9:00 p.m., and costume contest at 8:30 p.m. Prizes are: 1st place $100 Roundhouse gift card AND two tickets to a fundraising dinner at Señor Patrón's, 2nd place $50 gift card and 3rd place $25 gift card.

Halloween Celebration at Harpo's—Saturday, Oct. 27, 9pm-Close

We have Lolah back for some amazing live music! Costume contest at 11pm so come dressed up and ready to have some fun! Located at 21560 County Road 3, Merrifield, Minnesota 56465.

Trick-or-Treating Locations (On Oct. 31)

Trunk Or Treat at First Lutheran Church of Brainerd—3-5:30pm

Located at 424 S 8th St, Brainerd, Minnesota 56401. Join us for our 1st annual Trunk or Treat event on Halloween night. Set up and decorating starts at 3 pm. Be ready to hand out treats by 3:30. We are teal pumpkin supporters so please have some non-candy treats as well. Dinner and games in koinonia start at 5 pm. All are welcome and it’s free!!

Halloween Safety Event—3:30-6:30pm

Children may trick or treat safely for free at the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, Brainerd Police Department and the Brainerd Fire Department. Located at 202 Laurel St., Brainerd.


The Westgate Mall and Brainerd Dispatch are hosting this family-fun event including trick-or-treating, parade, games, photos and more. There is not an event at the Brainerd Dispatch this year.

Good Samaritan Society - Woodland Campus—5-6:30pm

Families are invited to put on their costumes and trick-or-treat the hallways as residents hand out treats. Located at 100 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd. Plan to enter the 100 Building entrance and exit at the 200 Building.

Trunk or Treat at Journey North—5-7:30pm

Come with your kids and get lots of candy in a fun and safe environment! Located at Journey North Community Church, 6785 Woida Rd, Baxter, and Zion Luther Church, 220 N 8th St., Brainerd.

Trunk Or Treat at Zion Lutheran Church—5-7pm

Located at 220 N 8th St, Brainerd, Minnesota 56401. Come bring your kids walk through the cars and get candy. 


Other Halloween Special Events

Zombie Apocalypse 5k Insane Brain Terror Run—Saturday, Oct. 27, 3pm

THE SPOOKIEST 5K YOU'LL RUN ALL YEAR! Race registration: 2 p.m. | Race begins: 3 p.m. | Awards: 4 p.m. The golf course at Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge. 5K: $35 per racer. | ZERO-K BEER SIT: $20 per person. This all-ages costume 5k is a race through the picturesque, wooded golf course at Ruttger's, but beware! There are zombies prowling the course and they’re hungry. Finish the race and receive a FREE Surly or non-alcoholic drink. Cross the finish line without "losing your brain" and be entered into a drawing for great pizes. OPEN TO ALL AGES. For the less race-focused folks, there is also a Zero-k Insane Brain BEER SIT. Be sure to stick around for the Post-Race Apocalypse Party featuring live music by The Arcanes.

Stage North Theatre Presents: Dracula—Oct. 30, 31 and Nov. 1 at 8pm

The legend of Dracula has inspired fear for over a century, and Stage North Theatre Co.'s production of the same name desires to invoke the same response for the audience in 2018. Find a news story about the production here.
